Grape Escapes wine tasting to benefit local food bank

Maricopans can escape for the evening with wine, appetizers and music at the first annual Grape Escapes wine tasting, a benefit for the local F.O.R. Maricopa food bank.

F.O.R. (Food, Opportunity, Resources) celebrated its first anniversary in April this year. It began by serving 10 families per week. Now, however, the need has increased locally, and F.O.R. serves 60 families each week.

According to F.O.R. Maricopa Director Wendy Webb, “One of the greatest needs is purchasing a refrigerated truck so food can be gleaned from local supermarkets.” Grape Escapes is designed to help with that purchase, as well as with other needed items at the food bank.

Mayor Anthony Smith, his wife Nancy and Webb will host the Grape Escapes event, sponsored by Courtny Tyler State Farm Insurance, on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Duke in Rancho El Dorado.

“I think everyone will enjoy this lovely event. It will be an evening of music, appetizers, good wine, door prizes and some wonderful socializing with the great people of Maricopa,” said Nancy Smith. “We are very excited about this event, not only as a fundraiser, but also as a community social event.”

A limited number of table sponsorships are still available for $300. They include two event tickets and promotional space. Checks should be written to F.O.R. Maricopa and mailed to Nancy Smith at 21911 N. Lakeside Drive, Maricopa 85238. Businesses may donate either raffle or door prizes.

Tickets are $50 per person and include a souvenir glass and a bottle of wine.
