Green is good for Maricopa medical practice

Kermit the Frog was wrong: It is easy being green. From electronic medical records to electronic faxes, Drs. Goodman & Partridge, OB/GYN has made leaps forward in going “green.”

The medical practice is doing its part for the environment by introducing paperless payroll, eliminating paper checks and paper check stubs. Employees have the choice of either having their pay direct deposited into their bank account or receiving their salary in the form of a bank pay card, which is electronically loaded with their pay deposit. The employee has immediate and convenient access to his/her money at automated teller machines. The card also can be used at retail locations that accept Visa debit cards.

Matt Smith, director of physician resources, said the practice’s employees are embracing support the “green” concept. “They really seem to enjoy it; paperless payroll saves them a trip to the bank or a trip to work if they’re off on Fridays,” Smith said. “We haven’t had any complaints so far about the new system that also includes paperless time keeping. No more punch cards; it is all done on the computer.”

Employees can view their pay stub information online or print it out 24 hours a day upon initiating the Employee Access Online through Paychex. “We are always looking for ways to ‘go green,’ and this opportunity was a win-win for the environment and for the practice.” said Nick Goodman, practice administrator for Drs. Goodman & Partridge, OB/GYN.

Smith said it’s also added a higher level of efficiency and customer service. “Going paperless allows us to be more organized; we don’t run the risk of losing a paper chart or having certain documents fall out,” Smith said. “It gives our patients peace of mind knowing that they can trust us even more with their confidential information. Having everything streamlined allows us to decrease wait times drastically; no more sorting through rows and rows of files for a patient’s chart. The financial savings associated with paperless charts and payroll helps us purchase state-of-the-art equipment so we may provide even better health care.”
