The Guardian of the Pink Ribbon made a stop in Maricopa Friday morning at Fire Station 571. City officials and members of the community were on hand to welcome the three-truck convoy, which tours the country to bring cancer awareness in women.

As the pink trucks pulled into the station parking lot, it was easy to see this was something special. As the firefighters, dressed in pink, exited their fire trucks and stood by their apparatus, members of the community came together and became part of this national awareness campaign for the fight against cancer affecting woman.

In attendance were numerous cancer survivors and family members who wanted to honor the mothers, daughters, sisters and loved ones who had lost their battle with cancer. The event triggered some emotional moments when survivors signed the trucks and reflected on the struggles and challenges they have been through due to cancer.

Maricopa Mayor Anthony Smith proudly wore a pink Maricopa Fire Department uniform shirt in honor of cancer awareness. The department had firefighters in pink uniform shirts. Members from the police department and various departments from city hall were also there in support and some were wearing pink as well.
