While many casino goers are familiar with one type of ‘green,’ Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino is giving its patrons a new green option, an easy one–to recycle.
Harrah’s Ak-Chin casino will roll out its new recycling program today.
The program features recyclable containers on the casino floor, in the offices and any other place staff deem necessary.
“This is a total casino operations recycling project,” said Recycling Association of Maricopa director Gina D’Abella.
According to D’Abella the casino began its green quest nearly a year ago with the creation of the Ak-Chin Environmental Squad. “Many of the casinos in Vegas are green, and this is the direction Harrah’s Ak-Chin decided to go,” she said.
The recycling association helped the cause by donating 50 recyclable containers to be placed around the casino’s exterior. Ak-Chin’s Sanitation Department will empty the containers and deliver the recyclables to the association.
To help celebrate the launch of the new, green program, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Environmental Squad will have a ribbon cutting ceremony today (Dec. 22) at 11:15 a.m.
The open-to-all ribbon cutting ceremony will be held outdoors on the west side of the casino.
