Health department gives 8 Maricopa eateries E rating

In June the Pinal County Health Department inspected eight Maricopa eateries, and all walked away with the highest ranking possible.

The department conducts random inspections aimed at ensuring that all the proper steps are being taken to maintain consumer safety, county officials said.

To ensure consumer safety the department can issue violations that are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations must be rectified within 10 days and affect a location’s score. Non-critical violations must be fixed within 90 days.

Grades are based on the number of violations; an E, for excellent, is the highest possible score an establishment can receive. Other scores are S for satisfactory, U for unacceptable and N for needs improvement.

The eight restaurants receiving an E in the past month were Sonic, the New Headquarters, Brooklyn Boys Italian Restaurant & Pizza, Arena Sports Grill, Mi Casita, Water and Ice, Taco Bell and McDonald’s.

Despite receiving the highest grade possible, a few corrective actions were necessary.

At Arena Sports Grill it was recommended that non-food contact surfaces be cleaned and gloves be worn and changed regularly. Brooklyn Boys received a recommendation to provide a front hand-washing sink.
