Health inspectors give three local eateries perfect ratings

The Pinal County Health Department inspected five Maricopa eateries in March. Receiving perfect scores were Native New Yorker, Mondo’s Mexican Food and the Water Boy.

Sunrise Café and Dairy Queen received less than perfect scores.

Dairy Queen, which received an “S,” was cited for improper dish washing practices, not changing gloves between tasks and a dirty ice machine.

Sunrise Café, which also received an “S” or satisfactory rating, was dinged for employees not wearing gloves when handling food and improper cooling techniques.

Health inspectors conduct random inspections aimed at ensuring that all the proper steps are being taken to maintain consumer safety, Pinal County officials said. To that end, the department can issue violations that are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations must be fixed within 10 days and affect a location’s score. Non-critical violations must be fixed within 90 days.

Grades are based on the number of violations, with an “E” for excellent, being the highest possible score an establishment can receive. Other scores are: “S” for satisfactory; “U” for unacceptable; and “N” for needs improvement.

(Editor’s note: InMaricopa.com will list the health inspections for Maricopa, Casa Grande and nearby Valley eateries each month. Maricopa eatery inspections will publish the first Tuesday of every month; Casa Grande the second Tuesday; and nearby Valley restaurants the third Tuesday.)
