Honeycutt Auto preparing to expand

Is your car overheating or your air conditioning on the fritz?

A trip to Honeycutt Auto might be just what the mechanic ordered.

Honeycutt Auto is a full-service auto shop, and it’s located within the city.

The owner of the company, Donald Akins, opened the shop’s doors 18 months ago when the demand on his mobile mechanic business exceeded his capabilities.

“I had too many customers to continue running around servicing vehicles in the field,” Akins said.

The first year of business has been rough, but Akins said he feels things are starting to look bright.

“I wish I could have started my business at the point it is now, but I guess you’ve got to crawl before you start to walk,” Akins said.

That point is expansion.

Akins has his sights set on opening an eight-bay shop on the corner of Honeycutt and Whisker roads. The land for the new shop has been zoned, and within the next few months he estimates he should have a solid timetable for completion.

For now, Akins employs two full-time mechanics. He will need to add several more once the new shop is complete.

“My mechanics are the best, and I can not say enough good things about them,” Akins said.
