House fire leaves one injured

Maricopa fire crews responded to a kitchen fire in the 46000 block of West Windmill Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday.  As crews arrived on scene they found the home’s residents outside stating that the kitchen was on fire.

The residents said that they were cooking and left the home to go pick up family members from work. When they arrived back home, they heard the smoke detectors going off and found smoke and flames in the kitchen.

Their neighbor, Maricopa Police Officer Jeff Brooks, was just starting his shift when heard the call and quickly responded to aid his neighbor.

Officer Brooks made sure the residents stayed out of the home while fire crews responded.

Fire crews extinguished the fire, which was contained to the kitchen, and conducted an extensive salvage and overhaul of the home using thermal imagining cameras to look for fire in the ceiling or walls.

The home sustained significant fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the home and the residents were aided by the Maricopa Police Departments Victims Assistance to find shelter for the night.

One resident was treated for smoke inhalation and released on scene.  All smoke alarms were active in the home.
