House party shooting victim found in Acacia Crossing park

53

On Saturday about 4:55 a.m. the Maricopa Police Department responded to the area of Coasta Brava Avenue and Alamendras Street in the Acacia Crossing community after a report of shots fired.

Officers located an 18-year-old male victim in the community park with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim, a resident of Glendale, Ariz, was unable to respond to any questions at the scene due to the seriousness of his injuries.

He was treated on scene by the Maricopa Fire Department and transported to the Maricopa County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The ensuing investigation determined that the victim had been attending a house party a short distance away and had left the residence to go to the park with other party goers. At sometime the victim was shot by another person attending the party, police believe.

A search warrant was served on the residence where the party had occurred. Police investigators found evidence of underage drinking and illegal drugs being used inside the party residence. Evidence was also found linking a handgun to the incident.

The Maricopa Police Department continues to investigate this incident to determine how and why the shooting occurred. Several subjects have been identified and are actively being sought for questioning in this case. The victim remains in serious condition and more information will be provided as this case develops.
