Inaugural Miss Maricopa Pageant scheduled for Oct. 2

The city of Maricopa will be hosting its first ever Miss Maricopa Pageant on Oct. 2.

“We are excited to offer this pageant for the first time and hope to make it an annual event,” said Jennifer Mix, pageant director.

To participate, contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 24,be a United States citizen, meet character criteria, be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements and be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities.

The entry fee is $25, and applications are located at city hall, 44624 West Garvey Ave.

Contestants will be judged by an expert panel in four areas: talent, fitness, poise and presentation, and service to the community.  The winner will receive a scholarship toward a school of their choice.

“We are still working on gathering donations, so we are not sure of the size of the scholarship yet, “ Mix said. The group organizing the pageant is still looking for local business sponsors  or others interested in supporting the event.
