A former stagecoach stop in the middle of the desert is perhaps the last place you’d imagine finding fresh lobster rolls, but the New England treat could be coming to Maricopa.

The popular Angie’s Lobster Restaurant submitted paperwork last week expressing interest in setting up shop on the southeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road.

A site plan showed a 1,700-square-foot restaurant with a small seating area, two drive-thru lanes and parking for up to 25 cars.

The proposed location is the former site of eegee’s restaurant, which has long flip-flopped its commitment to open Maricopa. As of last month, the Tucson diner stated plans were “on hold, but we’ll pick up again.”

Angie’s Lobster — which was started in Tempe in 2021 by the founders of the popular Salad and Go — is known for its limited yet hearty menu and almost exclusive drive-thru service.

Its most popular items include grilled or fried lobster roll combos under $10, which are served with a tangy sauce, fries and a cup of lemonade or iced tea.

The Atlantic-inspired local chain currently has six restaurants in the greater Phoenix area, with two additional locations coming to Chandler and Glendale over the next few months.
