Local blood drive a success

The blood drive held by the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Grace on Saturday provided 46 pints of blood to help Valley hospitals.

“It was definitely a success,” said the event’s coordinator Jack Mullins.

Mullins said 58 people came to donate, but after screenings only 46 were able to donate. Some of the reasons people were unable to donate included recent illness and recent trips to Mexico.

The scheduled number of participants was 52.

When Mullins spoke with the United Blood Service after the blood drive, he said they were very pleased with the results.

“Apparently there was a shortage of blood at hospitals over the weekend, so the blood we donated will definitely be a big help,” Mullins said.

If anyone was unable to attend this one, Mullins said the next blood drive the Knights of Columbus have scheduled will be December 8,2007.
