Maricopa Police officers responded to a possible family fight involving weapons in the 44000 block of West Jackrabbit Trail yesterday at around 5:15 p.m.

Officers were met outside by a female resident who told officers that she and her husband had an argument, during which the husband went into the backyard of the couple’s home and fired a small caliber rifle at several yard decorations.

Officers subsequently arrested Lamont Smith, 33, for domestic violence/criminal damage and unlawful discharge of a firearm inside the city limits. The charges are Class 1 misdemeanors and punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,500 fine for each count.

No one was found to be injured as a result of the incident and several firearms, including the rifle, were seized as part of the investigation.
