A man perished in a Christmas morning fire south of Maricopa.

Official identification is still pending, but he is assumed to be the father of the house’s other occupant.

A report of a double-wide fire ablaze in the Thunderbird Farms area first came into the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office at 10:37 a.m. The Thunderbird Fire Department and the Ak-Chin Fire Department responded to the location in the 52000 block of West Fresno Road.

By the time PCSO deputies also arrived, the trailer was fully engulfed.

While they were fighting the fire, a 48-year-old man, described as frantic by PCSO spokesman Jim Knupp, arrived and told deputies he lived at the property with his 72-year-old father. He said his father was possibly still inside.
