Both the Maricopa Fire Department and the Maricopa Police Department were recognized at Tuesday’s City Council meeting for their contributions to Against Abuse, Inc.–Maricopa and the Gala benefit.

Against Abuse is working to build and fund a local domestic violence shelter for woman and children. The Seeds of Change Gala held each year is a benefit fundraiser for that shelter. This year’s Gala will be held on Saturday, April 4.

Local fire fighters give generously of their time to act as servers for the event, and the MPD provides security.

A.A.I. board member and Gala chairperson Torri Anderson presented the plaques, thanking both public safety entities for their contributions.

Accepting for the MFD were Capt. Richard Jackson and Fire fighter/Medic Chazz Dupree.

Public Safety Director Patrick Melvin accepted the award on behalf of the Maricopa Police Department.

“I especially want to thank the police department for their compassion when responding to domestic violence incidents,” Anderson said.
