Maricopa library hosts children’s story times

Remember “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak? What about “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling? For children attending story time at the Maricopa Public Library, these books might be among the many selections.

Library assistant Heather Kennedy was on hand Thursday morning as five children sat patiently waiting for her to begin reading. The educational focus that day was learning about opposites, like short and tall, day and night.

Kennedy read several books, and the children chimed in with answers to questions she posed throughout the thirty-minute session. She had the children participating and showing their eagerness to learn something new.

“Tuesdays are a really big turnout because we had story time at the old library then, and we just recently added Thursday to the schedule,” said Kennedy.

Library Assistant Stephannie Spencer added, “Ages birth to four can participate Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Beginning Aug. 12, story time for ages five and up will be on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4 p.m.”
