Maricopa library’s young girl reading needs a name

99

Everyone who has visited the Maricopa Public Library has seen the donated bronze statue of a young girl reading a book. That girl desperately needs a name.

Patrons were asked to suggest names for her, and the submissions have been narrowed to the following five:

Tina Marina
Cassandra
Bella Mirella
Mari Copa
Rita Lotta Books

When you visit the library this week, pick one of these names and cast your vote. The young girl should have a name by early next week.

Pumpkins were decorated to celebrate fall and Halloween and displayed at the library. The winning pumpkin decorators received a book for their creativity and ingenuity.

Winners are:

Jaalen and Addison Kangas
Yanishka and Jessie Quinones
Zahrah, Nasir and Layla Samad
Payson, Jaxson and Mckinley Hacker
Anna Kramarczyk
Larramie and AJ White
Bella Johnson
Sam Osinga
Hailey Coleman
Anthony and Alex Ross

In another contest, Emily Giron won a book for guessing the number of candy corn pieces in a jar. She guessed 1,570 candies, and there were actually 1,583 of them.

Starting this week and continuing until Dec.1, patrons who owe book fines may have those fees forgiven by bringing in non-perishable canned goods during the library’s Food for Fines project. All food donations will go to the F.O.R. Maricopa local food bank.
