The city’s new courthouse is wasting no time dishing out justice.

The Maricopa Municipal Courthouse will open for proceedings on Jan. 2 with a ribbon cutting scheduled for two weeks later, city officials said.

This will be the city’s first stand-alone municipal courthouse, located on the northwest corner of Bowlin and White and Parker roads. Previously, the city’s court shared a building with Pinal County Justice Court and Maricopa City Hall.

It’s a sign of the city’s progress.

“This courthouse isn’t just a physical structure, it’s a symbol of our dedication to ensuring every resident has access to a fair and efficient legal system,” said Mayor Nancy Smith in a statement.

City council approved plans to construct the 6,300-square foot courthouse last year and the public got a sneak peek at renderings in April. The building houses a 2,000-square foot courtroom, plus a lobby area, staff offices and parking for up to 32 vehicles.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will take place at 5 p.m. Jan. 16. The event is open to the public and RSVPs can be completed online.
