The week begins with a flurry of Labor Day events, including Maricopa’s 3rd Annual Parent-Child Fishing Derby on Monday.

The Maricopa Chamber of Commerce has relocated to 44870 W. Hathaway Ave., Suites 5 and 6 (next to the post office). Office hours are Monday -Thursday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Maricopa Police Department’s Silent Witness hotline is now available for reporting anonymous tips on criminal activity in the city. The number is (520) 316 – 6900.

Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day):

The Parent-Child Fishing Derby will be held at Pacana Park for children ages 5 to 13. The catch-and-release event kicks off at 8 a.m. with registration from 7-7:15 a.m. The fishing portion will last about an hour and a half, followed by a free barbecue lunch.

City offices, including the library, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3.

Tuesday, Sept. 4:

District 3 Supervisor David Snider will hold his monthly office hours at the Maricopa interim City Hall, 45145 W. Madison Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting has been cancelled due to the Labor Day holiday. The next Council meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Friday, Sept. 7:

The Maricopa High School Rams football team meets Bourgade under the Friday night lights with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

PRL excursions open for registration:

The Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department is currently registering teens
for trips to Gameworks and Laser Quest with transportation included. Gameworks has a massive, high-intensity gaming floor. Laser Quest combines tag and hide ‘n seek with a high-tech twist – the game is played in a large, multi-level arena featuring specialty lighting, swirling fog and heart-pounding music. The Gameworks event is on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 5 – 8 p.m.; Laser Quest is on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Families are invited to take a half-day, transportation included, excursion to the Phoenix Zoo on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The outing will feature the zoo’s more than 1,200 animals from 200 species.
