Here’s what’s happening this week in Maricopa. Meetings and ministries as well as an open house are highlighted.

Sunday, Aug. 19 (through Aug. 22): Maricopa Assembly of God Church will be hosting revival services with Evangelist Rod “The Ragin’ Cajun” Vincent. Services will be on Sunday Aug.19 at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. On Monday through Wednesday services will begin at 7 p.m. Everyone who seeks encouragement and a challenge is invited to attend.

Monday, Aug. 20: Maricopa residents will have the opportunity to hear flood hazard updates from Pinal County Department of Public Works staff, followed by a question and answer session, on Monday from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Maricopa High School Board Room (Room 1).
Those unable to attend the community meetings can visit http://www.floodsmart.gov to learn more about the flood map modernization project.

The Public Safety advisory committee will meet at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. to discuss various ordinances and public safety issues. See public notices for the full agenda.

Tuesday, Aug. 21: The Maricopa City Council will hear the results of the recent citizen survey and address requests from the Maricopa Police Department for additional equipment. A new 33-acre park in the Eagle Shadow development will also be presented for council’s approval. See public notices for both work session and regular meeting agendas.

Pima Butte Elementary School’s PTO will hold its first meeting of the year at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Pima Café. Elections will be held for several board positions.

Wednesday, Aug. 22: The Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board will meet in Room 1 at the high school at 6 p.m. to discuss personnel schedules, the possible approval of the READ 180 remedial reading program and the use of bonds for Phase II of the high school renovation as well as the planned Tortosa Middle School. Saturday, Aug.25: Oasis Life Church, located at 19756 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 108, will host a prayer ministry featuring Reeta Berry, the Moms In Touch leader for Horizon School in Ahwatukee. She will speak about the power of moms praying together for kids and their schools. Coffee and scones will be provided for the event, which runs from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Find out more information on Beery’s Web site.

Desert Sun Performing Arts will hold its first annual Open House on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is an opportunity to register for fall classes, meet the teachers and purchase dancewear. For more information, call DSPA at (520) 483-8915.

Sunday, Aug. 26: The DSPA Open House will also be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 19756 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 114.
