Thanksgiving preparations are in full swing in many Maricopa homes. Thursday will be a day to eat, eat some more and remember all the things Maricopa residents have to be thankful for. Additionally, in Maricopa this week there will be a city council meeting Tuesday and the first meet of the Rams wrestling season as well as groundbreaking ceremonies at the high school to celebrate its renovation project.

Sunday, Nov. 18:

Community of Hope church will celebrate the Maricopa community with one gathering at 10:45 a.m.; lunch will be served following. There will be outside games for the kids, and friends and neighbors are invited to join in the fun.

Monday, Nov. 19:

The city’s Public Safety advisory committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Cotton Room at City Hall. Open hearings on the proposed parking and motorized play vehicles will be held.

Meet people with MS in the Maricopa area. Jessica Feldman from the Arizona Chapter of the National MS Society will be speaking at the First Baptist Church of Maricopa on John Wayne Parkway at 6 p.m. For more information call Lynn Grant at (520) 868-6674.

Tuesday, Nov.20:

Groundbreaking ceremonies to celebrate the renovation of Maricopa High School will be held at 10:30 a.m. just east of the main office. The public is invited to attend.

Maricopa City Council will meet at the Global Water facility for a work session at 6 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Topics for the work session are the city’s sign code, a transportation presentation and possible block grant projects.

Everyone is welcome to stop by the Maricopa Community Library on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-11:30 a.m. to have a cup of coffee, a glass of lemonade and maybe a cookie or two, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Their cookbook, “Home Cookin’ from Maricopa, Arizona” ($10) and Patricia Brock’s “Reflections of a Desert Town” ($25) are both available for purchase.

New Life Pregnancy Center offers free parenting classes on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., during their regular weekly office hours. To schedule an appointment, call (520) 568-0612. Lessons cover prenatal care through the teen years.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 19235 W. Gunsmoke Road every Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Maricopa Rams wrestling opens its season today at home in the multi-purpose room at 3 p.m. in a match with Estrella Foothills and Tombstone.

Wednesday, Nov. 21:

Today is the deadline for the Holidays Homes on Parade registrations. The event will feature up to 75 families who agree to decorate their homes’ exteriors. Registration forms are available on the city’s Web site.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at the First Baptist Church of Maricopa, just south of the tracks on John Wayne Parkway, from 7 – 8 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 24:

A Jeep run will begin in the Bashas’ parking lot at 8:30 a.m. to meet and greet, hitting the road to the site of the Oatman Flats massacre west of Gila Bend at 9 a.m. For more information on this historical site and the run itself, contact [email protected].

Maricopa Wells spirit line will be offering a free camp to elementary girls at the middle school gym and dance room. Assisting with the camp will be the coach and several teachers. The girls will perform at the final middle school girls’ basketball game. Interested parties can email the coach at [email protected].
