Maricopa’s unemployment figures hit record high

The unemployment rate in the city of Maricopa increased 1.3 percent in June, reaching 13.1 percent and setting a new record for unemployment.

From May to June the city saw its workforce increase from 19,100 to 19,288, but the number of people claiming unemployment rose from 2,247 to 2,520.

However, Maricopa is not alone in rising unemployment rates.

The county saw its unemployment rate as a whole increase from 10.6 percent to 11.8 percent, and the state saw a rate increase from 8 percent to 8.9 percent.

For the year, the average unemployment rate in Maricopa is 11.4 percent.
