Last weekend members of the City of Maricopa Fire Department Bagpipe and Drum Brigade, along with hundreds of fellow honor guard members from around the U.S. and Canada, went to the annual Colorado Springs Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service in Colorado.

Over 130 bagpipers and 75 drummers participated with more than 400 honor guard, family escorts and flag tenders.

The members representing the City of Maricopa Fire Department Pipe and Drum Brigade were: Division Chief Mark Boys, Captain Lonnie Inskeep, Engineer Aaron Ray and Firefighter Adam Yarlott.

In addition, Pipe Major Deputy Chief Dewy Ray and Drum Major Firefighter Darrel Ray from Gila River Fire Department attended.

This memorial service has been held annually since 1987 to honor fallen brothers and sisters in fire service and pay respects to their family members. The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) sponsors this spectacular event and places the names of fallen heroes on a memorial wall each year in their honor.

At the ceremony General President of the IAFF Harold Schaitberger proclaimed, “We do not eulogize these brave men and women; rather we celebrate what they gave so others may live. May we never forget the brave men and women enshrined on this wall.”
