MFD open house kicks off Fire Prevention Week

34

December and January are peak months for home fires and home fire deaths. Home fires are more likely to happen around the dinner hours between 5 and 8 p.m.

The leading causes of fires in the home are: cooking (which leads to the most fires and injuries), heating equipment, smoking materials and electrical.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Maricopa Fire Department, Station 571, will be hosting an open house to kick off Fire Prevention Week. The goal of this open house is to provide the community with essential information about the potential risks that are in every home and the knowledge to be able to head off fires.

Give your child the inside scoop on how to get out fast in a fire scenario. A station tour, combined with an up close look at the fire truck, will give children an introduction to station life and the daily duties of a firefighter. At the end of the tour, fire safety/ prevention brochures, newsletters, stickers, and magnets will be provided.

Stop by and help the Maricopa Fire Department kick off Fire Prevention Week.
