Maricopa High School senior soccer player Madison Tyler has signed a letter of intent to play for Division I Alabama State University.

“Madison is an incredibly hard-working player,” coach Cortney Kellenaers said. “She is strong and aggressive and can really change the game with her speed. Her leg strength earned her a few goals and assists, but her strength and speed kept our defensive line intact.”

In three seasons with the varsity Rams, Madison has eight goals and four assists.

“Her dedication to the game and to education has allowed her to pursue the D1 option,” Kellenaers added. “I am incredibly happy for her and very grateful to have had the opportunity to coach her a little.”

The start of MHS soccer season is uncertain, as the Arizona Interscholastic Association has recommended delaying the start of winter sports until January.

Alabama State, a Historically Black College and University, won back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference championship in 2016 and 2017 but has since been rebuilding.
