Microburst in Province takes down trees

A microburst struck the Province common area during Thursday night’s storm, toppling 11 trees. A microburst is a type of localized downdraft that often occurs during thunderstorms. It produces wind shears that are very strong but short in duration.

In addition to the fallen trees in the common area, at least one resident reported losing a tree in his backyard. The damage seemed centered primarily in the Province community.

Crews were on scene, cleaning up trees early Friday morning.

Community Services Director Marty McDonald said, “We had a large branch go down in Pacana Park, but, other than that, there was no damage.”
