MPD receives $15,000 Office of Highway Safety grant

The City of Maricopa Police Department is pleased to announce the award of $15,000 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

This grant will be used to purchase one radar speed trailer and to provide training for two current MPD officers in deployment and operation of the equipment. The officers and equipment will then be used to conduct various speed education and enforcement programs.

Education is the key in providing a long-term solution to the problem of errant drivers. This program includes a public information and education campaign that will detail the program’s objectives. In addition, it will heighten the public’s awareness to the hazards of excessive speed, aggressive driving, driving under the influence, seat belt and child restraint violations.

Lieutenant Willie Payne, a 32-year veteran law enforcement officer, will oversee the project.

For questions about this program, contact Sergeant Stephen Judd at (520) 316.6882.
