Maricopa police arrested a local contractor accused of attacking his wife with a cooler and destroying a cell phone when she tried to call the cops Thursday morning.

Police arrested 44-year-old Daniel S. Spano, owner of Mr. Appliance of Maricopa, on domestic violence charges of assault, disorderly conduct and preventing someone from using a phone during an emergency.

Just after midnight, cops responded to a home on North Stonegate Road in Glennwilde after Spano’s stepdaughter reported he was beating his wife.

The wife said Spano grabbed a cooler and threw it at her, injuring her leg, and punched her in her face. Police noted redness and swelling on her leg and face that corroborated her story.

The woman said Spano destroyed his own cell phone to prevent his wife from calling the cops, according to the police report. He also reportedly disconnected the landline.

Spano refused to talk to the police, citing his Miranda rights.

Cops arrested Spano and booked him into the Pinal County jail. He faces 16 months in jail.

  1. Unfortunately the title of this article is tasteless. Not only is it making light of a very serious matter, but it is belittling to this victim and all victims.

If it is your intention to make victims feel ashamed and belittled, you’ve accomplished it.

I hope that was not the intent. Please apologize to the victim and step daughter who has to live through this as well. Your title is insensitive to abused people everywhere. Domestic violence is not a joke nor should it be made light of to get readers attention.
