Native donating portion of proceeds Monday

Keeping up with their tradition of honoring civil servants, 27 Arizona Native Grill and Wings restaurants will be donating 20 percent of their proceeds Monday to the 100 Club of Arizona in response to the death of Salt River Police Officer Jair Cabrera.

Cabrera was shot during a traffic stop on May 24. He was the first Salt River Police Officer to be killed in the line of duty.

This is their way of giving back “for everything they've done for the community and keeping us safe,” said Pat Kieny, owner of the Maricopa restaurant.

The 100 Club of Arizona is dedicated to providing financial assistance and support for families of killed or seriously injured first responders. They are a nonprofit group, support all public safety offices and have been operating for more than 40 years.

Together with Native, which has been in Arizona since 1979, they have created the “Wing for Badges” program to honor Arizona's fallen first responders. Native Grill and Wings has its own personal connection, as two of the founders' daughters are married to first responders, Kieny said.

The restaurant chain raised $21,935 during a similar event on March 10 in recognition of Phoenix Police Detective John Hobbs.
