No need to leave home for medical care with HouseCall Concierge

While many residents of Maricopa have to drive countless miles to receive their necessary goods and services, one man is eliminating one common commute burden.

Rob Porter has revived the medical house call.

“House calls used to be for bedridden, homebound individuals,” he said. “But, we’ve created a unique experience for busy individuals, business owners, and household CEOs – i.e. most moms – to help simplify their lives when they are sick.”

Porter, co-owner of HouseCall Concierge, moved to Maricopa more than three years ago to begin his medical career at a local urgent care facility. However, within two years he wanted focus on something a bit more unique in the medical field.

“Imagine receiving medical treatment in your home in less than one hour,” he said.

Porter finished working at the Maricopa Urgent Care in August 2008 and just three months later opened his car door for business.

To get his business off the ground, Porter, a certified physician assistant, teamed with Dr. Mike Blumhoff, who operates three urgent care facilities in the Valley.

Originally, the two planned to build a new urgent care facility in Maricopa, but because of the down economy decided that it wasn’t the right time to invest in a brick-and-mortar building.

Porter loves the idea of house calls “mostly because it allowed me to slow down, give the patients the time that they needed; if it’s 30 minutes or 45 minutes, then we’d be able to give that to them. On top of that, the convenience for moms with kids where they don’t want to go down to urgent care and wait for two or three hours. It’s a great service of them.”

Porter described his service as the ideal solution for the busy, the underinsured, the non-insured or just people with phobias of medical facilities.

Porter is able to offer most medical services, but certain things like blood work and X-rays need to be conducted at a lab.

“But most everything else, we can evaluate, diagnose, come up with a treatment plan, write prescriptions,” he said. “Probably 90 percent of the things you go to urgent care for, we can take care of right there in their homes.”

While Porter’s medical profession is without walls, it is also without the restraints of normal operating hours, only requiring a person in need of medical services to place a call to Porter. He said he’s on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the typical response time is one hour.

Because Porter is a Maricopa resident, he said HouseCall Concierge offers special deals for patients within the city.

“My passion is timely, convenient, unhurried medical care,” he said. “This rarely exists outside of our house calls.”
