A sewer odor at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort was discovered this morning resulting in the partial evacuation of the facility. Ak-Chin Fire Department received the initial call shortly before 11 a.m. and requested aid from Maricopa Fire Department for what Maricopa Fire Prevention Chief Mark Boys called a “sewer gas type odor.”

Approximately 30 firefighters from four agencies were on the scene, including Hazard Materials teams from the Maricopa and Gila River fire departments.

Boys said a 44-year-old female was transported to Chandler Hospital and 10 people were experiencing nausea and vomiting and being monitored by medical personnel.

The incident and subsequent evacuation occurred in an isolated area and did not close the casino.
