The Friends of the Maricopa Public Library have scheduled the second in a series of author visits at the Maricopa Public Library.

On Saturday, May 1, from 2 – 4 p.m., the Friends will host author, Jana Bommersbach, who will give a brief presentation followed by a book signing. Her books will be available for sale at the library.

Bommersbach is the author of the 2010 ONEBOOKAZ selection, The Trunk Murderesss:  Winnie Ruth Judd. Communities across the State of Arizona are all reading the book during the month of April.

Judd, a 26-year-old Phoenix beauty, was accused of murdering her two best girlfriends, hacking up their bodies, stuffing them into a trunk and taking them to Los Angeles as baggage in 1931. Sentenced to die, she ended up spending 40 years in an Arizona insane asylum, escaping from there six times. She was freed at age 66, perhaps a victim of injustice but certainly a survivor.

Bommersbach is one of Arizona’s most acclaimed journalists.  The Arizona Press Club has recognized her lifetime of achievement with its highest honor –The Distinguished Service Award.  The Society of Professional Journalists has inducted her into the Order of the Silver Key as an “inspiration to the state’s media community.” She has been Arizona Journalist of the Year and twice was recognized as the nation’s top city magazine columnist.

In addition to The Trunk Murderess she has also authored Bones In The Desert, the true story of a Phoenix area mother’s disappearance and a daughter’s search for her mother. Loretta Bowersock, the mother of Terri Bowersock of Terri’s Consign and Design Furnishings based in Tempe, went missing on December 14, 2004. Her remains were found in Stanfield in January 2006; she had been asphyxiated.
