A Pinal County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant was recently recognized for her work with youth across Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Education has awarded PCSO Lt. Tamatha Villar as the 2011 recipient of the Career and Technical Education Business Person of the Year award.

The award is given annually to someone who best demonstrates the mission of preparing Arizona students for workforce success and continuous learning.

Villar was nominated by Mike Glover, superintendent of Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology for her significant contributions of providing personnel, resources and equipment for program participants while mentoring youth with CAVIT.

“I have been blessed to have an opportunity to work with and mentor so many amazing youth throughout our state and especially in Pinal County. The dedicated educators, administrators and business professionals who support Career and Technical Education Programs work hard daily to ensure our youth are prepared to enter the workforce with the practical knowledge and real life experience necessary for the continued progression, safety and success of our communities,” Villar said.

Outside of her work with CAVIT, Villar is also the lead advisor for the PCSO Explorers Program which helps encourage, develop and guide youth with an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Sheriff Paul Babeu congratulated Villar on her achievement and tireless service educating and encouraging Pinal County’s future leaders.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Lt. Villar’s service with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “Since taking the lead on our youth advisory board, Lt. Villar has far exceeded my expectations in working with the PCSO explorers.”
