Maricopa Community Theatre will open the 2010-2011 season with its fall production of “Into the Woods.”

The show runs Sept. 10, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on  Sept. 11 and 18. All performances will be staged at the lecture hall (building 200) on the Maricopa High School campus.

“We are very excited to expand our programs and productions to provide quality entertainment here in Maricopa,” said Carrie Varga, the show’s director.

“Into the Woods” blends the familiar fairy tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack and the Beanstalk with an original story of a childless baker and his wife, who are attempting to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child.

By the end of Act I, all characters seem poised to live “happily ever after,” but will they? What consequences come from getting what you most wish for? Take a journey into the woods to find out.

The show’s cast includes: Chelsea Jenkins as the witch, Bob Pemberton as Jack, Caitlin Snow as Little Red Riding Hood, Jeanette Masters as Rapunzel, Jerry Allen as Rapunzel’s prince/wolf 2, Amber Snow Duve as Cinderella, Matthew Earnest as Cinderella’s prince/wolf 1, David Vargas as the baker, Carrie Vargas as the baker’s wife, Slavica Kalnasy as Jack’s mom, John Earnest as the narrator/mysterious man, Brittany Ames as Lucinda, Brittany Rimer as Florinda, Rebecca Earnest as Cinderella’s stepmother, Dawn Hunter as Cinderella’s mother/giant, Joanne Gallaway as Granny, Jason Beach as the steward, Natalie Bell as Sleeping Beauty/piggy, Tyler Curtis as Snow White/piggy and Kassidy Hunter as Cinderella’s attendant/piggy.

Vargas, as director, will be assisted by Matthew Earnest and second assistant director and costumer Dawn Hunter. Julie Stanfill is the choreographer.

“We are proud and grateful for our partnership with the city of Maricopa Parks and Recreation Department and to have Desert Sun Performing Arts and Creative Occasions as our business sponsors,” said Vargas.  Season memberships, as well as sponsorships, are available by clicking here.
