Pet Club bringing Maricopa premium products at discounted prices

A store offering premium pet foods at discounted prices aims to have its doors open to the residents of Maricopa by late August.

The Pet Club, which will be located in the Fry’s Shopping Center, is a pet food store that specializes in satisfying the dietary needs of cats, dogs and horses.

“The people of Maricopa should not have to drive 40 minutes to get good quality pet food for their animals,” said Pet Club owner Weston Smith. “I feel bad for the people of Maricopa having to drive so far for a simple convenience.”

Smith has been in the pet industry since the early 80s, and the opening of the Maricopa store will increase the family-owned franchise to nine stores.

“I have a passion for pets and saving people money,” Smith said.

The Maricopa location will boast 7,500 square feet and be open seven days a week with hours in the 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. range to serve the needs of Maricopa’s four-legged pets.

“Most of the brands we carry will be those similar to Pet Smart or other big box pet food retailers, but the prices will be less,” Smith said.

In addition to pet food, the store will also carry a premium brand of denim jeans.

The store will most typically begin with a small staff of three to four employees, Weston said, but when business begins to pick up, that number could go as high as 15.

“Most of the stores we are operating have a staff of 15 employees,” he said.
