The City Council reviewed and approved an agreement sent from El Dorado Holdings Inc. for a 33-acre public park in Maricopa.

Within the document El Dorado Holdings agreed to donate 33 acres for a city park that will also satisfy the open space requirements for the Eagle Shadow Community located in Rancho El Dorado. Along with the land, El Dorado Holdings will construct a lake and a Diamondbacks Field of Dreams baseball park.

Parks, Recreation, and Libraries Department Director Marty McDonald said the donations will account for more than half of the estimated $8 million cost of the park.

Beside the Field of Dreams, the park will include several other amenities currently unavailable at Pacana Park, including a skate park, dog park, amphitheater, interactive water feature and sand volleyball courts.

McDonald hopes the added amenities will allow for more city sports such as adult sand volleyball.

Similar to Pacana Park, the new park will also contain baseball, basketball and soccer fields as well as four playgrounds.

Approving the donation agreement for the park is just one step of many that McDonald said could take up to three years to complete. McDonald told City Council on Tuesday that it took 30 months to build Pacana Park.

Construction of the park is contingent on the development of the Eagle Shadow Community within Rancho El Dorado.
