Mexican restaurant opens in Fry’s Marketplace plaza

Plaza Bonita Family Mexican Restaurant opened in Maricopa on Wednesday.

The restaurant, which was originally supposed to open in July, will be located at the north end of the Fry’s Marketplace plaza in the space previously occupied by Teakwood’s Tavern and Grill, which closed its Maricopa location in 2011.

“We are very excited and happy to be in the Maricopa market,” owner Jesus Alberto Suniga said.

Owners Jesus and Joel Suniga opened their first Plaza Bonita restaurant in 2003, and the Maricopa location will be their tenth.

The restaurant will have its official grand opening on Monday Aug. 25.

“Starting at 4 p.m. we will have live music from a mariachi band, and every customer who brings in $5 worth of canned foods will receive a special dinner plate for free,” Suniga said.

He said the plate won’t be a menu item but will be a $12 value.
