Maricopa Chief of Police Kirk Fitch was elected to the position of vice-president of the Pinal County Law Enforcement Association (PCLEA) on Jan. 19.

Fitch came to Maricopa in 2006 to help build a police department. He was assistant to then Maricopa police chief and current public safety director Patrick Melvin. Last July Fitch was promoted to Chief of Police for Maricopa.

“Kirk was instrumental in helping the city build a quality police department,” said Maricopa Mayor Anthony Smith at the promotion ceremony. “I look forward to what he can do for the city in the future.”

Fitch will be working closely with the new PCLEA President, Bill Pitman, Chief of the Eloy Police Department and Michelle Barquera, Eloy PD administrative assistant, who is the new PCLEA secretary.

PCLEA is comprised of Pinal County police chiefs, the sheriff, agency heads, commanders, directors and invited guests of Pinal County criminal justice agencies.  State and Federal agencies are represented as well. Meetings are held in various locations around Pinal County and hosted by a member agency. The association also sponsors annual training for law enforcement officers in Pinal County on a topic to be voted on during the course of the year.
