Police Volunteer Program receives donation

On September 2 Alan Suckerman of the Rancho El Dorado Homeowner’s Association board of directors presented the Maricopa Police Department with a donation of $5,000 to assist the department with its new Volunteers in Police Services program or V.I.P.S.

The goal of the Maricopa Police Department’s V.I.P.S. program is to provide citizens within the community the opportunity to volunteer their time and energy in assisting the department perform non-emergency functions. This allows officers to have more time to be proactive in solving crime and responding to emergency calls for service.

To be eligible to participate in the MPD V.I.P.S. Program, a citizen will:
· Be at least 21 years of age.
· High school graduate or have a GED or equivalent.
· Have a valid driver’s license. (Required to operate a city-owned vehicle)
· Submit to a background investigation.
· Complete a polygraph examination. (if applicable)
· Complete a drug screen. (if necessary)
· Be approved for selection by a review board.

The Maricopa Police V.I.P.S. program includes assistance in many aspects of police work and daily activity within the department.

· Citizen on Patrol
