Carpooling of little interest, but SR347 info needed

697

Twice the number of people responding to InMaricopa.com’s poll on carpooling on State Route 347 said they just weren’t interested in sharing a ride.

Only 51 respondents said they are interested in carpooling, while 102 poll-takers answered “No.”

InMaricopa.com often depends on Facebook and Twitter followers to let us know what’s happening on the main route in and out of the city so we can share slow-downs, crashes, bad weather, etc. with our readers. However, we don’t want people texting us information while they’re driving so we were hoping more people were interested in carpooling –we’d like to create a cadre of commuters keeping us in the know. Alas …

Did you know, though, that according to Valley Metro, thousands of Valley commuters carpool? These are people with at least a 30-minute drive, travel more than 15 miles to work one way, and have mostly a consistent work schedule. Click here to learn more about a ride-share program.

And while the Arizona Department of Transportation doesn’t keep data on the number of vehicles making the daily trip from Maricopa into the Valley, in 2009 (the latest year for which the data is available) 39,500 vehicles a day were recorded at Riggs Road and State Route 347.

When it’s safe, please share road conditions on State Route 347 either on our Facebook or Twitter or contact us at [email protected]. We’ll pass on the word to help your fellow commuters.
