Postal Service changing ZIP codes for Maricopa

The ZIP codes for most Pinal County residents will be changing by one number in July.

The United States Postal Service announced that it is altering 30 ZIP codes that start with the numbers 852 and changing the third digit to 1. For example, the Maricopa ZIP code 85238 will become 85138 (Click here to view a map of the area affected the new ZIP codes).

The change will take effect July 1, though there is a one-year grace period during which old and new ZIP codes will be valid for mail delivery. However, the Postal Service strongly encourages customers to begin using their new ZIP Code starting July 1.

The Postal Service said the change is needed due to expected population growth in the area coupled with a diminishing supply of ZIP codes that begin with the 852 prefix.

Every postal customer in the affected area should receive a written notification of their address’ specific new ZIP code by May 30.
