Three citizens were selected for the Public Safety Committee at Tuesday’s city council meeting in order to fill vacancies.

Joyce Hollis, Kelly Kammer and Crista Longobardo were nominated and approved to serve on the committee.

Hollis is editor of inmaricopa.com and had for the past several months been fulfilling the unexpired term of a prior committee member. She spent three decades as a high school and community college English instructor, specializing in college preparatory composition and literature.

“With the additions of both a city police and a city fire department, I believe the work of the Public Safety committee is just beginning,” Hollis said.

Kammer is a co-founder of K.W. Kammer & Associates and has a number of years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry. He has had an Arizona real estate license since 2005.

Prior to his appointment Kammer noted that his experience with matters pertaining to safety, loss control and risk management made him a strong candidate to assist the City of Maricopa, city council and city management with issues that relate to public safety for the citizens and visitors of Maricopa.

Longobardo has been working in residential land development for more than four years and currently works for Shea Homes Active Adult.

“I plan on raising my family here and believe that the Public Safety Committee is an ideal opportunity to help create a safe and desirable destination for current residents, as well as future families,” Longobardo said.

The Committee is made up of seven members who advise city council and management regarding matters of fire protection, police protection, emergency medical service, traffic and pedestrian safety, emergency operations, homeland security and animal control. Membership consists of staggered two-year terms.

Vice-Mayor Brent Murphree chairs the Public Safety Committee. Other members are Carl Diedrich, Jim Gerard and Joe Trujillo.
