The majority of InMaricopa.com readers who responded to an online poll are in favor of placing police officers within all schools in the Maricopa Unified School District.

The school district has a school resource officer at Maricopa High School. The city received a grant last year that will allow the police department to place two more resource officers within Desert Wind and Maricopa Wells middle schools.

In addition to the two middle schools and the high school, the district has six elementary schools.

Of the 370 readers who responded to the poll, 207 (56 percent) voted “yes” for police officers on all school campuses. One hundred forty-six (39 percent) voted “no” for officers at the schools. And 17 (5 percent) were “not sure.”
