Register your vehicle if employed or have children in school

ADOT officers have asked that all employers remind their employees that Arizona law requires Arizona vehicle registration and driver licenses for all Arizona state residents who have vehicles or drive.

Officers have been assigned to identify and cite people who are in violation of the registration laws and will be sweeping neighborhoods and school parking lots. This information is intended to be a helpful notification. No one wants to be subjected to any hefty fines.

If you are a resident of Arizona, then state law requires that you obtain an Arizona vehicle registration and drivers license immediately.

You are considered a resident if you:

1. Work in AZ or
2. Place children in school without paying tuition as a nonresident or
3. Have a business that has an office in Arizona, and that bases and operates vehicles in the state or
4. Obtain a state license or pay school tuition fees at the same rate as an Arizona resident or
5. Have a business that operates vehicles to transport goods or passengers within Arizona or
6. Remain in Arizona for a total of seven months or more during any calendar year, regardless of your permanent residence.

A penalty applies to all those in the aforementioned categories who fail to register their vehicle or vehicles. In addition to other civil penalties, the court may charge $300 each time you are issued a citation. The motor vehicle division may charge late fees up to $100.
