Replica Jimmie Johnson helmet comes to Ace Hardware

When Maricopa Ace Hardware employee Paul Rouse heard that a replica of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson’s helmet was going to be at Ace Hardware Friday afternoon, he ran home.

The self-acclaimed “No. 1 Jimmie Johnson Fan” had to pick up his two Johnson black leather jackets.

A few minutes later, he came back into the store proudly touting the two jackets – one over each shoulder – ready to snap a photo with the memorabilia.

Rouse was one of many Maricopa residents who got the chance to see the helmet or try it on as the helmet made its way around the Valley this week.

Against Abuse, a Casa Grande-based nonprofit that assists victims of domestic violence, was one of 13 organizations to win a $10,000 grant from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. As part of the grant, Against Abuse also had its logo featured on Johnson’s actual helmet and received a replica to take around the area.

On Aug. 18, the foundation and ice cream company Blue Bunny gave children who receive Against Abuse services a special ice cream party.

“Our kids were introduced to NASCAR,” Susan Versluis said. “They had a really good time learning about it and helmet safety.”
