An illustration on a city website that provides information about commercial properties in Maricopa indicates that Subway and GameStop, a video game and entertainment software retailer, are proposed tenants at The Shops at The Wells, a 13,000-square-foot retail center under construction near Walmart.

But a representative from the company leasing the retail spaces said Wednesday both of those businesses no longer are prospects.

“We had been working with both of them as tenants but neither looks like a prospect, not at the moment,” said Bryan Lamond, director of leasing with North American Development Group in Paradise Valley.

The retail center is expected to open by the end of the year and North American Development Group has signed leases with Papa John’s, Great Clips, Pacific Dental Services and a nail salon.

There are four or five spaces not yet leased.

“We are making efforts to attract all different kinds of tenants to the center,” Lamond said.
