A road rage incident on State Route 347 on Tuesday escalated into gunfire, leaving one vehicle damaged and a suspect facing multiple felony charges, the authorities said.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the confrontation began when one vehicle cut off the other.
Bart Graves, the DPS spokesperson, told InMaricopa today that the driver of a black Lexus ES sedan allegedly opened fire on a Ford F-150 pickup truck, striking the vehicle’s tailgate and rear emergency lights. The Ford’s driver was not injured.
The Lexus driver was later transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of an unrelated medical condition. Once released, Graves said he will be booked into jail on charges including drive-by shooting and criminal damage. That driver’s name won’t be released until he is charged with a crime.
The incident remains under investigation.
That Lexus sedan was left yesterday on Bowlin Road with nine bullet holes through the front windshield, wrapped in crime scene tape.
This is the second road rage fueled drive-by where no one was hit that was investigated in Maricopa in the last three weeks.
