Maybe the 175 InMaricopa readers who said they aren’t planning on going to Saturday’s Salsa Festival would change their mind if they got an early taste of the goods.

Currently at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle, for example, the salsa 347 Grill is competing with Saturday is in little paper cups near a giant bowl of chips on the Cones Cafe counter just waiting for people to sample. For the first time, local restaurants, including Southern Dunes’ Grille 109, are competing and offering samples ahead of time.

The festival runs 2 to 9 p.m. at Pacana Park and includes various salsa competitions, live music, a myriad of business and craft vendors, Tequila tasting and a Kids’ Zone.
