Salsa Festival winners honored at Tuesday’s city council meeting

The five winners for Best Bean Dip, Best Guacamole, Best Mild and Best Hot Salsas and Most Unusual Salsa plus the big winners for Best Overall Salsa were presented with Visa cash gift cards at the Maricopa City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Each winner also received a handcrafted and hand painted chip and salsa set from Poco Loco to commemorate the 3rd annual Maricopa Salsa Festival presented by inmaricopa.com (see related photos of the event).

Asked by council members what made her salsa Most Unusual, Minerva Hendrix replied, “Some of the ingredients.” She and her husband Jack, The Hendrix Experience, also won the coveted prize for Best Overall Salsa.

Over 700 votes were tallied to determine the following winners:

Best Bean Dip ($300 prize):
Carolyn Haight – Team Carolyn

Best Guacamole ($300 prize):
April Herrera – Team Herrera

Most Unusual Salsa ($500 prize):
Jack & Minerva Hendrix – The Hendrix Experience

Best Mild Salsa ($500 prize):
Amada Landeros – Team Landeros

Best Hot Salsa ($500 prize):
David Sheparad – MBA Salsa

BEST OVERALL SALSA ($1,000 PRIZE):
Jack & Minerva Hendrix – The Hendrix Experience
