Salvation Army signing up kids for holiday gifts

Maricopa’s own ‘angels’ are beginning to plan for this year’s local Salvation Army Christmas Angel Program.

Since 1987 the Salvation Army nationally has been providing angel programs so that all children may experience the magic of Christmas. Individuals and corporations give personalized gifts for a child in need by adopting an angel and purchasing toys or clothing items for that child. On average a child receives three or four gifts, a mix of toys and clothing items.

Maricopa’s Angel Program focuses on children age 12 and under, although some older children will also receive gifts. In the past the Fiesta Grande RV Park in Casa Grande, Harrah’s, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department and the Maricopa Rotary have provided gifts for their ‘angels.’

In order to qualify, families needing assistance should sign up, starting Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Rotary Park Ramada next to the old library and pool off the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Three other sign up days are also scheduled.

Families must provide proof of income, residency and identification to be considered for the program.

“We hope that the Christmas Angel Program will provide holiday gifts for every needy child in Maricopa this year,” said organizer Amy Cole. “We don’t want even one child to be forgotten.”

ID (drivers license or birth certificate)
Proof of income
Proof of address (utility bill)
Children’s ID (AHCCCS card, birth certificate)
